Through the Griffins’ “Put A Lid On It” helmet safety program, presented by Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, hundreds of kids across West Michigan have made pledges to always wear their helmets when they ride their bikes. In return for their pledge, each child receives two free tickets from the Griffins. One of those kids was also chosen at random as the winner of a brand new bike, donated by the Village Bike Shop. At the Griffins' game on March 21, 2009 versus Toronto, 5-year-old Brock Hearth of Sparta received his new bike. Congratulations Brock, and good job to all the other kids who use their heads and “Put A Lid On It.” WHAT IS "PUT A LID ON IT!"? The "Put A Lid On It!" helmet safety program is a public service of the Grand Rapids Griffins and is presented by Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. The PALOI program was founded by the Griffins in 2004 to promote helmet safety to elementary and middle school children throughout West Michigan, with an ultimate goal of reducing the occurrence and severity of head injuries sustained during wheeled sports and other outdoor activities. In recognition of this effort, the Griffins have been honored as the recipient of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan's 2007 Prevention Award. For more information on the PALOI program, call the Griffins at (616) 774-4585 ext. 3046. ATTENTION PARENTS! Click here for tips on choosing a helmet and getting your child to wear it. JUST THE FACTS
