GR vs. OKC

After upsetting the second-seeded Toronto Marlies 4-2 in the conference semifinals – wrapping up with tonight’s dramatic 4-3 win in Game 6 at Ricoh Coliseum – the third-seeded Griffins have advanced to the Western Conference Finals to face the fifth-seeded Oklahoma City Barons. Games 1 and 2 will be at Van Andel Arena this Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.

Game 6 - GR 4, TOR 3

The Griffins scored three times within a 5:53 span of the third period – capped off by Luke Glendening’s series-clincher with just 4:03 remaining – to stun the Toronto Marlies and advance to the Western Conference Finals with an incredible 4-3 victory on Tuesday in Game 6 at Ricoh Coliseum.

Game 5 - TOR 4, GR 1

With their season on the line, the Toronto Marlies ensured that the conference semifinals would return to Ontario’s capital city for at least Game 6, thanks to a 4-1 victory over the Griffins on Saturday at Van Andel Arena. Grand Rapids carries a 3-2 series lead back to Ricoh Coliseum, where it closed out the Marlies in 2006 and holds an all-time playoff record of 4-1. Game 6 is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Athanasiou Added

The Griffins have signed left wing Andreas Athanasiou to an amateur tryout. Detroit’s third choice (110th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Athanasiou skated in 66 games with the Barrie Colts this season, finishing fourth on the team with 67 points and helping the team reach the OHL Finals.
