Derek Edwardson Led CCHA in Scoring Last Season
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Wednesday signed center Derek Edwardson to a professional tryout.
Edwardson, 23, is currently tied for second in the ECHL scoring race with 30 points (13-1730) in 26 games with Atlantic City, helping the Boardwalk Bullies to first place in the league with 36 points and a 16-6-4 record. He stands second in the ECHL with a plus-16 rating, and his 13 goals and 17 assists each place second on his team.
A rookie pro, Edwardson was named to the CCHA First All-Star Team last season, when he tied for the conference lead with 48 points (17-3148) in 41 games with the Miami Redhawks.
Edwardson will be available to make his AHL debut tonight when the Griffins visit the Cleveland Barons. Face-off at Gund Arena is set for 7.
